Title: Duhh
Post by: Eastern fisher on January 29, 2010, 02:27:00 PM
I am dumb.  I am building my second ash bow.  I hold the bow in my left hand.  When I put in the arrow rest I put it on the right side of the bow.  This is wrong, yes??  Is this still shootable for me or do I be nice and give it to someone who can shoot that way.  Talk about a learning curve.  Man

It's been done many times before. I think Ishi shot that way. Not sure though.

I made this same mistake on bow #2...I had a template, traced it, cut it...and realized the template was the wrong way...

Can you make a dual shelf (one on each side), or an ambidextrous bow...cutting another shelf on the same side..just the other way around).  I made an ambi. out of my mistake...worked well...looks funny.

Here is an all wood tri-lamb bow I was experimenting with & tried to make it ambidextrious. It is the same (righthanded) just changes the top limb to the bottom though, no lefty shelf. OOppsssssssssssssss!

So I turned it into a ambidextrious, upsidedown or rightside up all encompasing shooting shelf'ssss.

Needless to say it has been discontinued!

if the shelf is small shave it off and do one on the other side or just make it a narrow grip and add a little leather shelf...unless you made it near center shot you could be OK...

Well, the biggest concern I gues that I have is the fact that it is made out of Ash.  That being said and the fact that Ash is so unpredictable I am not even sure this bow will tiller properly without snapping.  I was under the idea that when using ash you pretty much had to have a bow that was 2 inches wide at the handle.  true?nottrue?  I will get pics here tomorrow to show.

if I was you I would send it to me and start a new one. That way you wouldn't have to look at it. ;-)

Don't really have to have a shelf unless you really want one. Shoot off the hand either side upside down or however. Make sure your feathers are smooth though! (http://i841.photobucket.com/albums/zz336/Barley40/001-1-1.jpg)
