Hi guys,
Last night I finished my first take down recurve from a Bingham's kit and had to show it off. I've built a few of their straight limbed longbows, and was going to build another, but I got an urge to try something different. This was a lot more challenging than the longbows I've done in the past and I have to give some thanks to those here who gave me some advice when I was having some limb twist issues. Got that worked out.
I've always had a fondness for curly maple (must be from the muzzleloaders my Dad use to build when I was a kid), so I used dyed curly maple for the limbs, and a nice piece of curly maple for the riser that I got from a guy who makes muzzleloader blanks. Wedges and riser accents are walnut. It ended up a bit heavier than I wanted (dead on 70# at 28"), but I really don't notice the inceased poundage since it draws a lot smoother than my longbows. I have no idea about the speed, but it's a screamer compared to my longbows.
There's some boo-boos on it and it's far from perfect, but I'm happy with the way it turned out for my first recurve attempt. Just wish my craftsmanship was of the same quality as the piece of curly maple I got for the riser.
Thanks for looking,
John

Oh yes..Very nice..The maple is outstanding. Great job.
Love that curly maple ! I think you did a real nice job.
I used to fish some at Sayers Lake . Isn't that near Howard ?
Bill
Very nice- that maple is something to look at!
man, nothin wrong with that one. Craftsmanship looks fine from my house. Although once you've got the first one out of the way you will start to add your own little details. great job
Great job!looks very nice!
Thanks for the compliments guys. I was hoping for some nice weather for the weekend to get out and enjoy it a bit more, but it's gonna be cold and nasty here.
Bill - yep, Howard is the little town right on Sayers Lake. I live over the ridge from Howard, towards Lamar, but still have a Howard address. Lots of crappies in Sayers.
Terrific!
LOOKS PRETTY DARN GOOD FOR YOUR FRIST RECURVE JSWEKA
How long is the bow? jsweka
Great job, I like it a lot! Congrats on a great job, you should be very proud.
SWEET!! How did I miss this 1st time ??
Thanks guys.
Frank - it's 62".
I was out shooting it in the snow today and I think this is going to be my "go to" bow this year. I'm still getting use to the extra draw weight, but it seems to pull easier each time a shoot.
Great Job. Beautiful bow
Gorgeous bow! It was a kit from Bingham?
Excellent 1st attempt!
Thanks for sharing

red hill - yes, I used a Bingham limb lamination kit. Riser wood was from a guy who makes muzzleloader blanks.
Thanks for the compliments.
