If you finish your bow with Tung Oil, will the Tung Oil cause the India Ink used for signing/marking the bow to run, or distort? I know that the India Ink would be used between coats of the finish, but I've not seen where anybody has addressed this question.

Can you use tung oil on fiberglass?
D.A. I have never used tung oil after signing with India Ink but I have used Tru Oil after signing with no running. Would have to think that they are about the same.
Hey, I am in Paragould. Work in Jonesboro. We need to get together some time. I have made several selfbows and am about to make my first lam bow with material from Kenny McKenzie, and a form I made from his instructions on website.
David,
Were you in DNW back before Christmas with an osage stave? I go in there all the time. I work for the State University in Jonesboro.
D.A.
I would test ung oil on a scrap of wood first, just to make sure it is compatable.
I don't believe that it would work on fiberglass.
I was in DNW several times before Christmas. They get lots of my money. I have a family of hunters. Don't remember if I brought in a stave or not. I do come in to shoot sometime. Are you in maintenance? I sell maintenance supplies for Eagle Sales.
David,
I shoot at DNW quite often with my grandson. I shoot a homemade hybrid longbow.
No, I'm not in maintenence. I work for Environmental Health & Safety. I'm the Safety Supervisor/Emergency Services Coordinator. Did you see the story on KAIT 8 Friday night about earthquakes and the Convocation Center? That was me they interviewed.
I'm in the same boat. Doing the inking soon. I also need to know if Bear decals will be ok with Tru-oil, in between coats. I remember reading on some old posts but yhey're gone now. Bowdoc would know if he's not too busy.
With an oil finish I spray the area to be signed with spray poly, let it dry and write on that. It will seal the wood so it doesn't run.
Usually what causes the ink to run is the propellant in the spray can.Wipe on tung oil should be OK. If using spray finishes, I seal the ink with finish out of a lidded can and once that dries you can go to a spray can finish.
