This bow has been a long slow journey. I started back in 2008 .. Due to multiple surgeries this one had been set aside several times. Though its heavy for me now I hope to be able to work back up to the draw weight eventually. I had a hard time hitting full draw but tried to get close for the pic. So here she is.
This is a Yew flat bow with Halibut skin and waterbuffalo horn tips. It is 60" tip to tip and is 64# at 25". Keenan

A thing of beauty!!
Very nice! The tiller looks perfect!
Nice work, Keenan! I really like those halibut skins. I've never seen anyone use them for backing before. Is it a pretty tough skin or is it more for decoration? Cool bow! Thanks for sharing it with us!
Matt
A masterpiece worth the wait. Fantastic looking bow. Great job...the tips couldnt look better.
nice bow Keenan, I really like the halibut skins
Thank you Kenny.
Thank you Matt. Halibut is tough and it will add some protection. Not as tough as sturgeon however.
Thanks Silent Bear and Bjansen
Fantastic work. Patience is a virtue that often leads to a great bow!
You ole showoff! As always Keenan a functional work of art!
Thanks Pat, that other yew bow is just about ready to come out of hiding as well. LOL
Keenan, I have been on hiatus also in the bow making department too. It's time to start making curls again. I have a handful of projects started already; a Hazlenut from BrianB that is ready to be tillered, for starts. That will probably be my Renaissance bow for this next rebirth. d;^)
Beautiful bow!
Yes, that is very nice!! :clapper:
That is a beautiful bow for sure!
I like it! Good job.
Very nice, looks great. I wish you well on your recovery
Chuck
"Different" skins are cool on bows! This was already a beauty, so the cool factor is higher.
Love the tips!!
Beautiful bow!
Thanks for the compliments everyone.

Nice bow I really like the way you did the tips. :clapper:
That is really an outstanding bow from the tiller right down to the halibut backing and the nocks. Jawge

Very nice bow
That is one sweet bow!
Another beauty !! Nice work !
Thanks guys for your kind words. I'm glad you like it.
cool
Stellar build as always Keenan...I always look forward to opening a bow thread that is started by you, never disappointed.
Amazing! Selfbow? No sinew? Beautiful, and no string follow that I can see! I'm getting better on judging tiller and that looks perfect to me?
Boy that is sharp
Who ate the halibut!?
I couldn't make something that sweet in 30 years, let alone 3. Excellent work.
did you join the skins in the handle, or was it an extra large flattie!
nice bow- very well done.
have you ever seen the ling cod skins? i have a few in the freezer i am saving for some yew staves to dry out.
Awesome bow Keenan.
Thanks guys. This bow I built and posted last spring, but it's still one of my favorite hunting bows and love how she is shooting.
fujimo: the skins are two joined at the handle. Yes I have done several ling cod skins and like using them as well. They are fairly tough and add good protection but seem to lose allot of the color when dried.
I guess it was ok:)
Hello Roy, you old Dog, LOL How are you going?
Thank you!
:) Doing well Keenan, sweet bow my friend.
He's lying Keenan, Roybert is just as honery as he ever was if not more so, but I guess you would call that normal for him? LOL
Those Halibut skins are cool man, you did a right fine job on that bow! They look like they have a greenish tint to them, do they look that way when they are caught and fresh or is it something to do with the finishing on a bow that gives them that color? I like it!
Closest thing we got to halibut around here would be grass carp and I've seen a few bows with those on the limbs and are actually quite cool.
Semo; Thank you, I think your right about OLD Roy,LOL
The skins are natural color, Yes they are a greenish tint but overall they don't have very much pattern. I think the grass carp slins are much better looking for pattern and color. If you know where I can get my hands on some grass carp skins I'd definitely bein for a trade of some sorts. :bigsmyl:
beautiful bow

My brother's next door neighbor has a pond that's over stocked with grass carp. I snagged one of them one time on purpose just to see if I could land it and it took me and my brother both to do it. I fought it till my arms hurt, then handed the rod over to him to finish bringing it in. I think it weighed somewhere around 35# or so?
If I happen to do that again I'll freeze one for ya.
Yunzs boys hain't right:)
Ya mean like in the head? :knothead:
