I noticed a post down aways looking for fine sand paper. I have just the opposite problem.I can't find anything rough (50-60 grit) for my belt sanders or spindle sander.I checked with Menards, Lowes and Home Depot. Found 60 grit belts at Menards for $8.50 a pc. I was only able to find spindle sleeves in 120 grit.
Does anyone have a source for this stuff. I would be willing to buy in reasonable quantities if the price was right.
Thanks in advance.
Ed
Ed, I have been getting all of my belts from amazon . com ..i use the blue zircona belts 36 grit most of the time. They sell them in the 3 pack and free shipping over 25 bucks...but also supergrit .com i hear is the place to go for large quantities. I have never placed an order with them though.
Thanks Brad. Sounds like what I'm lookin for.
There is a place called Discount Abrasives that onece had a web site but now sells exclusively on fleabay. You can buy any grit or size belt from them. I buy aluminum oxide 6X48 belts for about $2 each.
As for grit I use mostly 36 grit. I found that 24 grit has so few projections in belt that they are easily worn down and the belt goes dull quickly.
Do a search on the auction site for "sanding belts" or a seller named "Barbkat"
I bought some Blue belts and other stuff from supergrit, fast delivery, nice belts. I will check out Discount Abrasives.
I buy my belts and general sandpaper from a company in California named "True Grit" they have a web site I'm sure. Just look them up on the net. Great prices and great people to work with.
Thanks much. I'll look all of them.
You can also try Harbor Freight. I was in there yesterday and they had an assortment of 50/60 grit belts.
I got mine at Harbor Freight. They had the finer grit's I needed too.
Yes Sir, Just north of 90th and Maple in Omaha on the west side of the street. Harbor freight if you get down that way.
Good Luck
Mike
Yep, I hate Harbor Freight for tools because sometimes I think they carry crappy brands but they sure are cheap. Bought me a bunch of C clamps and a bunch of sandpaper the other day for under 20 bucks!
I sure notice in all the build alongs that many of us have those harbor freight C clamps...I know I have a drawer full of them...and when I went to Mojam last year they were all over the place...I thought that was pretty funny.
Sometimes our local Harbor Freight has Norton or 3M paper..which I like..but I wont buy the other off brand stuff...I think cheap sandpaper is about the most expensive thing you can buy.
I like their clamps because they 2.50 a clamp the other day on sale, and at another local hardware store, their cheapest clamps were 10.00!
