Title: Best time to harvest osage
Post by: Stiks-n-Strings on December 13, 2009, 10:28:00 AM
I've been reading the post about harvesting osage. Someone commented on getting around fields and finding stuff with thicker rings. I have been noticing this stufff everywhere around where I live and wanted to know when the best time of year to cut it in southern IN. I was thinking maybe Jan or Feb.

I can get truck loads off of the properties I hunt and have an abundant resource for black locust, ash and Hickory as well.

When you can get a truck in the fields is best, any time really.

Any time is good.  Some people say in the winter when the sap is down, but Dano is right.  I prefer the winter because there are no bug, poison ivy, ticks, oppressive heat, and other suck things.  I can deal with the cold. :-)
