Title: stiff upper limb
Post by: Christo on December 04, 2009, 08:28:00 PM
I have recently aquired a used bamboo backed hickory long bow that seems to have a slightly stiff upper limb. Not the optimal positive tiller that I am used to. I am wondering how this might effect arrow flight, bow life, hand shock etc... if I would leave this bow as is. I have cabinet scraper tillered a long bow in the past and am wondering if it would be to late to take a little wood off this limb to achieve positive tiller. Any input would be greatly appreciated.

How does it shoot? You can move the string nock to find the "sweet" spot. If that fails then you can take a few scrapes off the stiff limb to weaken it a bit. This will reduce draw weight. Try the other possible fixes first before you remove wood.

Thanks Pat...this bow shoots pretty well, all things considered. A bit more hand shock than I prefer. Will try what you advise. Much appreciated!

Narrow the tips down if you can. That will help with the hand shock.
