Title: Triming some weight......
Post by: coaster500 on November 30, 2009, 12:32:00 AM
I hope I am asking this on the right board?

I have a Robertson Vision Falcon 3pc 60" 53@28. I purchased the bow in the hope that I could build up to the weight.... Well I'm not sure my shoulder can handle the weight. My question is can you remove some of the weight from the limbs (I would like it around 48 to 49#s)? I love the bow but? Does this process hurt the bow? How is it done?

Thank you

My first recommendation is to send it off to Dick Robertson for the reduction.  Recurves are trickier to remove weight from.  4-5# is usually doable though.  Any hack can reduce the weight, but will it be the same drawing bow, only lighter, when they are done?

I would suggest you send it off to Dick as well, and if you're the original owner I'm sure he wouldn't charge you too much for reducing the weight.  Taking 4-5 lbs off of a recurve is pretty easy and you should have a bow that is more comfortable to shoot without any problems.  To reduce the weight the limbs will have to be resprayed and if you send it back to the original bowyer you won't have to worry about non-compatible sprays messing up the finish.

Thank you for the advise....

I called Dick and talked about it.
