I have read that burlap makes a good backing.I have some camo burlap left that i picked up at a sports store for a box stand.I am wondering if anyone here has used it and how well it works?
and is the burlap backing ugly?
Burlap is pretty course but it does make a good backing(as per George Tsoukalas) when glued down with TB glue. I have never used burlap but have had good luck with silk, linen or brown grocery bag paper.
Yes, burlap is good. Use the real stuff. Not the artificial. It is jute fiber. Jawge

i have no idea what burlap is but i will say this about all cloth type backings You should press stretch them, it has always seemed to me that anything that isnt uni-directional is not the best choise simply because half the weight of it is usesless. i know it seems like a minor point but alot of bow builders wanna squeeze out every little bit
Burlap works amazing for bow backing from my experience. Plus if you use the camo version you will have a great look for very low cost. Just use some titebond on the back of the bow to attach the burlap and trim the edges when dry.

If you want uni-directional burlap just unravel it and lay the strands like sinew.
burlap backing looks good imo, look on george's site. good looking hunting bow with burlap, blends in well
I recently used burlap backing on a shorter hickory self bow. It works great! I glued it on with titebond III and after it dried I rubbed more titebond over the whole surface to make it a rock hard backing. I also stained it and it gave it a cool mottled appearance. good camo
