Title: alone in missouri
Post by: DVSHUNTER on November 20, 2009, 01:57:00 PM
I am looking for someone around O'Fallon to build a bow with.  It would be great to have someone there to help with some of my questions.  I have built six bows now and they keep getting better, but I want to know why I keep missing my speed desires.  I can't seem to hit the 100 fps plus draw weight.  I know I shouldn't let it bother me and with my 26in draw I might not ever get to that number but they keep getting faster, and I just wanted a little guidance.  Thanks for all your help.  David

I am building selfbows, Kenny.  I was thinking about getting a little bow building party together, nothin like MOJAM or anything, just a little get together if anyone was close enough.  Dan, I would love to get together with you, I could use your help on some tip overlays on the bow I'm working on.  Let me know when you might have time.

I am starting my first bow today, it is going to be a red oak board pyramid bow. Judging from the pics here, we NEED to get together in the St.louis area, there is some hidden talent we can all draw on. Is there a way we can all get together on this? I would like to meet some of you. I had no idea there were this many St.Louis & surrounding Trad gangers!!

I think that we can get together.  My house is small, but it is an option.  My "shop" is in my garage and it gets a bit cramped.  My bench is portable though so if we can go somewhere else that would work for me too.  Actually, I might have a place here in O'Fallon.  How many people could make it?  We can need to set a date.

Alright, I think that this is going to happen.  A full day of bowbuilding with some new faces.  I can get a place in O'Fallon, MO I just want to know who wants in and what dates you are available.  I can bring a boywers bench, tillering set up and tables and chairs an such, but I need to know how many people are interested.  I'm thinking if we try for a day in Jan. maybe.

Hi, Anyone starting to build wood bows needs a copy of Paul Comstock's book " The Bent Stick" it's a must in my humble opinion. It's helped me more than anything.

I'd like to make it but I'm about 1 1/2 hrs. away and don't think I could make it anywhere near 7:oo.  I take meds at night and they make it hard to get up that early and still have a clear head.
I'll probably be callin' someone for directions but don't know.  Maybe if I can get Butch to go along.  We'll see, sounds like fun and just what I need.  :campfire:

I can give directions to anyone who needs em, just email or pmme. There is no problem with showing up late, you might miss something ,but anytime is better than never. I will have three benches to work off and if anyone can bring another there is room for more

Good morning folks!
I"ll have to let you know about the 17th. I hope it's an event I can make. It would be fun to get with a bunch of folks of a like mind. I always have a good time where bowfolks are involved.
As I read some of the replies there seem to be some folks coming that are sort of a crowd all by themselves and my experience tells me it almost takes a crowd to run ramrod on the likes of more than a couple of them...lol
If I can make it I'd love to bring my newest girl friend with me (I can get the wife's permission I'm sure). She hasn't even whispered her name to me yet but that doesn't matter to me because she's so very good looking and seems to love the attention. I don't know how she will act around a crowd yet. I can only hope she is the faithful type.
Do you  happen to know if there'll be room to do any shooting?

Thank you for thinking of me.
Happy New Year and God bless
Roy L "Mudd" Williams

well the day came and went and I just want to say thank you all who made it. We had a great time and no arrows were harmed in the process. Except one tip that was stolen by a  very stubborn bag target.  I hope everyone got what they came for. Hope we can do it again soon. Here are some pics. Hey Joekeith,
I enjoyed watching you watch yourself chase a ring.
I've had anyone hold a mirror for me.. I can see where that would be helpful especially when the growth rings are close.

I don't think you need to be complimenting that MOAB, Dave has it in for that bow. Let's just let it stand that way, ok? He doesn't want or need a non-deer killing bow around. I'd sure hate to see him open his eyes as long as he's willing to keep on talking with me about giving it a new home...lol

We got lucky and the door went uninjured, especially with a silly archer doing that crazy Avitar draw thingy..lol

I had a great time. I wish the lady had made it back with her string, I wanted to she her shoot her newly handled Osage bow.
God bless,Mudd
