Title: Almost a goof up
Post by: lockon on November 13, 2009, 02:05:00 PM
Wow - I had just layed up a new recurve with my new form. I had decided to use the rubber band method because, well, I liked it. It was easy and I had used it on a couple of R/D's. After I glued everything up and secured it in the form with the rubber bands, I decided to add a few edge clamps in the fade outs and around the curves - just for extra measure. No "pressure". Just nice and snug.

I put it in the oven and walked in to get some lunch. After lunch - about 30-45 minutes - I walked out and peeked into my oven. OH NO! The bands had broke in several places and were laying on the bottom. I opened the oven up and saw that things were too far gone to do anything about it now. So I let it cook on.

Afterwards I pulled it out and the edge clamps had saved the day. They had held exactly where the bands had snapped. In the other areas - the bands were still holding. Whew! That was a close one.

Lesson learned - don't trust the bands in the oven.
