Title: Bow care ????
Post by: tarponnut on October 12, 2009, 11:05:00 PM
Not sure if this is the right forum but here goes... the edge of the upper limb of my Martin Hatfield is showing some signs of wear. It looks like the finish has worn off in a couple spots to bare wood.I'm afraid of moisture getting in there.
What can I do to fix this?
Thanks.

What I've done with my vintage bows that have worn spots in the finish is sand them smooth with fine sandpaper then spray them with satin or gloss urethane. I don't sand off the old finish, I just smooth everything out before applying the urethane. The urethane blends with the old finish nicely.

You can also try that question in the    trad history/collecting forum (http://tradgang.com/noncgi/ultimatebb.php?ubb=forum;f=14)   . LOTS of good advice there.
