I have a big Hackberry tree that split and fell behind my shop. I was going to start cutting it up & was wondering if it was good for bowmaking? Thanks.
There is a man who goes by Ranger on the *********** that took 3 or 4 deer last season with his "Hackberry Hammer". He thinks it works very well.
I have staves cured in my garage that someday I will get to. It is said to treat it as you would any other midrange Specific Gravity wood.
Although I haven't made a hackberry bow yet I will some day. I have seen a some very nice hackberry bows. If the wood hasn't been down for too long, I'd say split it into staves, remove the bark, seal the back and ends and set it aside to dry in a protected place.
It has been down for a couple of weeks I think. I went to open the rear door of my shop last week & it wouldn't open all the way.that's when I noticed it. I will get started on it asap.
