Title: Tip Overlays - Glass Lam Bows
Post by: Curtis Haden on August 28, 2009, 01:45:00 PM
You guys glue on your tip overlays before, or after, shaping your limbs?  Seems like it would save a litte roughing-in work...  Also, anyone feel like CA glue is NOT strong enough for tip overlays?

I'm slowly but surely building my first.  I had a name picked out for it already, but I may have to re-think that, and name it "The Marathon Bow".

Curtis I have not built a fiber glass bow for some time. I used to shape the limbs and when I got close to wanting to put a string on the overlays went on with super glue.

I visited Ann Hoyt years ago and They used super glue on their overlays.

I shape the rough profile of the bow first.  I narrow my tips to around 9/16" and cut string grooves in.  I want to be sure I make weight before gluing on tip overlays.  It saves on overlay material.
