Title: did a oops on bow #4, pic added
Post by: Robertfishes on August 24, 2009, 11:12:00 PM
OOPS on bow #4...But it's gonna work out fine. When I was checking material thickness's I had several pair 002/inch tapers in front of me, when measured at butt end thickness went from 0.100 to 0.120 so after carefull addition and calculation I decided on a pair of 0.110 tapers, got bow glued up...tapered,mmm feels a little light, I must be getting stronger..shaped riser..sanded it and shot it. It shot great but draw was maybe 45lbs @ 28" my target build  weight was 50lbs, out came the mic took a few measurements and looks like I picked up a pair of 0.103 tapers NOT the pair of 0.110's. I think this one is a fine shooter and has a place on my rack. I was really trying to make a 50 lb bow to give to my Friend in Ohio who lets me stay at his farm for 3 weeks a year to hunt deer(no charge)..looks like I'm gonna have to glue one up tomorrow night. I will always triple check lams and math from now on.   :biglaugh:

Been there done that. Most of the time you only do those kind of mistakes one time.

I said most of the time.   :banghead:

At least it was not a fatal mistake.

cranked up the dehumidifier yesterday afternoon  and Shot bow #4 with 4 coats of Spar Utethane Gloss then 3 coats of Satin. It's been very humid and raining lately so I will leave the dehumidifier on for 20 hours. Will post pics when bow is ready to shoot.

This bow shoots sooo nice, just got a bow scale today so I will scale it in a few days but draw feels like it will go 43-45lbs?? flings a 3555 very nicely, I'm loving it, I didn't need another 50-52 pounder anyway..   (http://i596.photobucket.com/albums/tt46/Robertfishes/bow4Aug2009.jpg)

that's a lovely bow, being 8pounds underweight or not  ;)  Why not show some details?

- (front profile)
- unstrung picture
- strung (as the one you have)
- drawn
- handle closeups (front, sides, back..?)
- tip closeup

Nick, That riser is Cocobolo Dymondwood. I have some Brown Actionwood and black glass accent that should make a nice looking riser on the next recurve.
