Title: Got #2 in the oven/about finished w/pics
Post by: Don Batten on June 06, 2009, 01:32:00 PM
I guess this stuff is addictive. This one will be the same as the first with the exception of I got some clear glass and honey locust. wanted to see if my clamping set up will squeeze out the air bubbles. I'll put up pics when it's done. Don

I'm using fire hose. form is made out of lvl's. I got it out and clean it up. took the tape off the belly just to peek.  No bubbles on that side. DB

Took the tape off and I couldn't believe it. not one air bubble. that honey locust looks great under the clear glass. glued on my handle overlays and hope to get it done this week. depending on the work load. I did put it on the tree and she pulls 55@28. gonna try and take it down to around 50. Don

How about 61? Minor set back. one tip overlay blew off and had to cut the bow down to 60". It pulled 67@28 off the bat, but have managed to get it to around 61@28 now. All thats left to do is final sanding and finish. If it holds togather, should be a nice looking beast. Don

Well after a few setbacks I decided to go ahead and finish this bow. I can shoot it but not for long at a time. 59@28 60" . I'll probably try and sell it or just give it away. I did learn alot on this one as well. thanks for all the help . Don

Beautiful bow! I've been doing a lot of reading and I'm starting to get a BIG itch to try this.

that's a nice bow bat,
but I wouldn't think the drawweight is an actual handicap. How often will it happen that you're going to shoot it all day?

when I'm shooting heavy bows, like 110-130# I don't shoot more than 30-50 arrows a day. And you bet I'm having fun!

Even if you decide not to use it for your normal shooting, you might want to use it for hunting (if you hunt). I would always recommend bringing some more power on a hunt than on a normal shoot. You'll want to deliver a quick and deadly blow, and I think the more power you have, the better it is.

anyhow, you'll get stronger when shooting it, you just need a bit of practise. I hate to actually give bows away, mostly because I grow to fond of them. It's nice to have a few bows lying around  :)

can't you just keep sanding the limbs down to reduce the weight?
