Title: Black Cherry and Cherry bark oak.
Post by: mwmwmb on April 27, 2009, 01:58:00 PM
a friend has offered to donate some wood to my interest in bow making. I have started my first, a redoak board bow but I just moved and dont have my shop set up yet.
he has some of each of these.
has anyone used these?

the black cherry has a SG around .50 I would think light weight or backed.

the cherrybark oak is similar to redoak and has a SG of .61.
Thanks guys.

I'm not familiar with cherry bark oak but most oaks will make a good bow...same with the cherry. Make them long and wide and back with silk, linen or rawhide.
