I am going to make a howard hill style fiberglass bow and was wondering if anyone has made one or owns one and would be able to tell me the dimensions of the tapers, ie butt end thickness and taper per inch, and also the # of lams and how heavy the bow turned out.. this bow will be pressed in a form just like the ones howardhill archery uses... slight backset.. thanks for any input.
Hills are narrow and deep. I think the ones I've owned were right at 1 1/16" wide at the fades. Craig builds mostly 4 and 5 lam models, not counting the glass. Due to the narrow width, he has to get most of his taper from the lam stack. I'm just guessing here, but would say around .005 per inch total taper. Maybe even more than that! PM Dick from Seattle, because he can tell you more.
Wesley Specials are 4 tapered lams and 1 parallel lam. 4 tapered lams (.002"/" each) is .008"/" total taper.
