Title: Is it to late
Post by: **DONOTDELETE** on October 23, 2008, 08:50:00 PM
Is it to late to cut & split sassafras. There is 3 trees that I can cut down. And wanted to know if I can cut them ( well just one down for now, the others come Spring/summer ) or should I wait? They are about 3"+ round and about 20 feet tall before they start to bend all over the place.

Cut when you can. You should be able to chase a ring if sassafras fairly easily if need be. Cut it, split it and seal the ends. If you remove the bark, seal the back.
Check the bark well before you cut the tree. Almost every sassafras around here grows with a spiral.      Pat

Pat, I'll be cutting down 2 later.1 is about 3" round the other is a small sapling. These are pretty straight with some snakey to them.
