Title: Osage belt axe
Post by: srtben on May 22, 2015, 11:21:00 AM
Hey guys, I just finished up these two small axes and I thought I would share. This is my Valkyrie tomahawk design minus the spike. For the prototype I wanted to something different, so I gave it osage scales and did some Norse inspired burning on it. I think it came out pretty cool.
The second one has natural canvas micarta scales. The steel is 1/4" 4140 that I deferentially tempered.  These should make a really nice woods hawk.

Let me know what you think.

I think you did a great job on these. Like the design of that head. Should be really handy.

Looks Very Nice Ben. About what would estimate the head weight to be? The shape looks like it would make a good carving axe.

Thanks guys!

The total weight is about 24oz. and the balance point is about an inch behind the top tube. It feels really nice in hand.

Wow that is a cool axe. I suggest a little more weight on the back. It will help with speed wobbles.

What would that be like to throw? I've never done it, but learning to throw a hawk would be an interesting experience, I think. I really like your work.
Are those steel toe sneakers?
