I needed some Kydex supplies so luckily for me there is a great Tandy Leather store within 15 minutes of me. I mainly use Kydex for neck knife sheaths. While talking with the sales person, I mentioned leather neck sheaths needed a good magnet to hold a knife. He said these magnets were a new addition...very strong & very thin. I'm impressed for adding these to hold a knife upside down. These are the mid & large size with two to a pack ...tippit

I have been thinking about putting a magnet in the blade portion of my sheath shims for extra retention if the strap fails. I've built a scale nest so to speak and that really helps. I also try to get the welt a few thousands thinner than the blade so the leather hugs it good but one of these puppies inlayed in the inner shim(s) to help level the knife will probably be the cats meow.

Jeff, put one on each side with the apposing poles facing each other. They push each other apart till the blade goes then then clamp down. very thin liner leather keeps them from scratching the finish. Been doing it that way for years on neckers with no problems.

Every day I learn something! Thanks Doug! I never thought to use 2 set to apposing poles. I wasn't smart enough to figure that out myself. I used one and the retention wasn't at a level I was comfortable with carrying a knife around my neck.
If you look on the big auction site under rare earth magnets you can find very strong magnets of dang near every size. You have to be pretty careful with the rare earth mag's as they will com together hard enough to shatter. Or the big ones can break fingers.
I've used them in leather for holding all sorts of things.
