Title: Latest work and new stamp
Post by: D.Ellis on April 23, 2014, 11:15:00 PM
Hi trad gang brothers and sisters. For your eyes first is the world premier of my new makers mark   :D
I had trouble with the old mark washing out during the etch on some Damascus patterns, so I had to come up with something more bold. I kept my initials D.E. back to back like I always have, but in the form of an arrowhead. I made it in 2 sizes for different sized blades.......still need one made smaller yet for folder blades, but I'll have to farm out the making of that one........these I made myself. Here're the results.

And here are the latest blades, both 1084.
A guardless hunter with 3 1/4inch cutting edge and 7 1/2 inch overall length. Nickel silver "bolster" and cocobolo handle.

The next one is a bit of a departure from my norm. Maroon linen micarta, with black canvas frame and red liners. Mild steel guard and pommel nut with heavy texturing. Antique blade finish. Blade is 9 1/4 inch long. Overall length is 14.75"

Good idea for the mark, very creative. It's original, clean, and easy to read. Very nice knives as well. Cocobolo is one of my favorite woods and that handle is beautiful.

Thanks guys. You might be interested in the construction of the hunter......here's a pic before assembly.

That small white piece is a antler plug to cover the assembly nut.

Thanks Ben,
I'm planning to keep the fighter/bowie for a while.......the cocobolo hunter is for St Jude's. I am having trouble keeping a big blade for myself lately.......been talked out of em too often. I like a big knife for general duty in the bush, and have not had one to carry for a while. I tried to make this one quick and simple, but that never seems to work for me   :D

The fighter is awesome.  I prefer natural handle materials, but the color choices on the micarta handle, frame, and liners work really well with each other and with the finish on the metal parts, so I guess I'll let it slide.  I love the handle shape regardless of materials.  The little hunter is sweet.  Can't find anything I don't like about it, except maybe where it's located.     ;)   I really like how you sculpted the front of the ferrule to flow into the ricasso.  Another gaurdless hunter to go with all the others that have been posted this year.  Guess I need to get back to work on mine.  I've had the blade finished and ready for a guard and handle for well over a month, along with a bowie that needs just a little more polishing before putting a handle on it.  Should have never started gardening I guess.
