So after months of learning, researching, and trial and error, I finally finished my first to knives. They are both old nicholson files made using the stock removal method, "$50 knife shop" goop quench method, heat treated and etched in white vinegar for 24hrs.
Both passed the brass rod test so hopefully they're good to go once they get their final sharpening. I still have to make sheaths and etch my mark but other than that they are done.

The first one is 7" OAL, with a 3 3/4" blade, reclaimed white oak handle with brass pins.

The second is 9 3/4" OAL, with a 5" blade, rosewood handle with stainless pins.

It seems that your background has helped you in the matter of design. You have done an exceptional job on these, for the first ones. I really hope you will continue to show more of your knives to us as you make them. I see good things in your future should you keep it up.

I sure like the style and everything about them.

I just finished processing the deer I got earlier in the week and I can just feel either of these in my hand doing the work I just completed.

Nice Job Joel, I love the inclusions on that white Oak.

I am not a knife maker (yet) just knife admirer and would say you have the knack. There is something about the second one that says " Hey there sailer want to have some fun"

Thank you for all of the comments and words of encouragement, they really go a long way when you're starting out and the mistakes out number the successes. I have 5 more on the go right now so we'll see if they turn out to be knives or learning tools (mistakes).
