Title: Dressed up Bird and trout
Post by: srtben on June 23, 2013, 08:13:00 PM
Sometimes a knife just kind of designs itself as It comes along, this was one of those knives. The design actually started life as a paring knife, but the further I got with it the more it turned into a little hunter. I gave it a classic loveless style handle, with green micarta, red liners and a tapered tang.
The blade is .125" L6 with a hand rubbed finish. It fits oh so nicely in the hand, and is nicely balanced with the tapered tang.
Anyway, I am pretty pleased with the little guy.
Any comments are welcome, thanks for looking!

Ben, that's a great looking little knife!  I like the green micarta, I have used micarta one time and plan on using it again.

I agree about a knife designing itself. Some times during the forging process I start out with an idea and it turnes out entirely different!

Great photo's too!

I have looked at a lot of knives here and there are many many super knives but this one is my favorite by far.  Time to wipe my drool off my computer.

Love the green, and I like how you shaped the front end of the scales.
Top notch stuff Ben, nice leatherwork too.

Awesome once again.  Lots of great knives on this site(and others) but my taste has me copying your work more than most.  I just like your style a lot.

I did have to laugh a little to myself reading your post because at my skill level(hack at best) ALL of my knives kind of decide for themselves what they are going to look like.  I can have an idea in mind but I am not good enough to forge two alike and just aim for an idea letting the knife make the final decision.  Also, making Damascus billets and test etching them sometimes forces a different profile than originally intended to maximize portions of a certain pattern.

Anyway - very nice little knife and sheath Ben.

My knife making started here Bobby, I never thought I would be inspiring anyone else's work.
Thanks again.
