Title: knifemakers in MT?
Post by: MTArrowLauncher on May 05, 2013, 01:38:00 PM
Who all makes knives in MT? I made a few (stock removal) in highschool and want to learn to forge and make knives. Was hoping to see who is around, and if there are any that I might be able to spend some time in their shop and learn a thing or two.

My buddy is buying a forge in June for a business he starting so I have a forge and workshop to use.

I will definitely be asking you fellas questions as I go.

There are a couple of knife makers listed here:

And Trad Gang's very own Doug Campbell!

Keep the wind in your face!

Good grief-you're hitting the jackpot. There are a lot of really good makers in Montana, including MS and JS ratings with the ABS. You could also take a look on the ABS website, they have the locations and sometimes contact info for their rated makers. I went to a class with MS Ed Caffrey last year and just went up to a hammer in in Bigfork. I'm sure someone would be willing to help you out. Good luck.

Hey Doug,
Yes we decided to come back closer to family since we just had our second baby. Home in the Big Sky !

As you can tell by her shirt, she wanted to be a Montana girl  :)

Doug-
Had a great time up there, missed getting to meet you-guess it's a good excuse to have to make another trip up sometime  ;) . Looks like I might get to head down to Bing's place for some fun after Blade is over, too. Take care and enjoy that new hammer of yours.
