Title: Can you make a knife out of a file?
Post by: mountain lion on January 11, 2013, 10:03:00 PM
Hey gang, I'm wanting a little knife to put in an armguard and was wandering if you could make a little knife out of a file? And how would I go about it? Thanks

You can indeed. But not any files, old USA made file are supposed to be best. You will need to draw the temper to be able to shape it... But I will let the pros take it back from here, I'm not familiar enough with the right terms, and I don't want to BS you or anybody   for that matter!!
cheers

This is the buildalong that got me rolling on my first knife and I still think it is one of the best tutorials on Tradgang!!
Thanks again James!

Cool if you leave some file ines in the knife when forging one out...especially if you flare the file lines...tippit
