i made a wrapped eye hawk for my first welded project. it turned out alot better than i ever thought. ill post pictures soon but for now im wondering how to protect my forge floor from the borax . it did alot of damage just from one project not to mention with the floor turning soft i could'nt get the hawk head to stand up the way i wanted.
JD, I have never forge welded in my propane forge, however I have heard if you pour a thick layer of kitty litter on your forge floor that may help. I'm sure those with practical experience will post better ideas.

Yea, your gonna have to put something on the floor. The molten flux is very corrosive and will pretty much melt whatever it touches. Kitty litter will help, there is also a stuff called bubble alumina that will work well on the floor. Not much you can do for the side walls but not touch them with the flux...
