416 stainless cut and ready. The bronze will have to wait to be used later.

After forging to get it closer to shape. Everything is bigger to allow for final shaping.

Here's the blade it goes on. 11 1/2 inches of 1095. The clip is 9 inches.

Here are the fittings roughed out. Now I have to slot and finish them. That might be another day.

That blade looks quick!
Love that long, lean blade. Can't wait to see where this one goes!
Cool! :campfire:
I have the guard on. The front of the guard is finished and I will touch up the sides after I get the ferrule on. Right now the ferrule is rough but fit on. I'll take it (the ferrule)apart and work on it this evening if all goes as planned. You might notice that the bronze spacers are left proud. I intend to file notches in them all the way around. Being proud will make them more reflective of light.

That's going to be another masterpiece when it's all said and done.
You're killing me with every new one you post, Lin. Can't wait to see this one finished!

I thought I'd snap a pic of the back of this guard. I will often inlet the middle a few thousandths to make sure the outside of the fittings are tight. They will bear on the outside instead of rocking on a piece of trash or spec of something.

I just set the ferrule on the guard after doing my best to make the transition as seamless as possible.

Very cool. Love the pics.

Looks great Lin! I don't think I have ever seen you make an ugly knife! That guard looks fantastic...can't wait to see it finished!

Thanks guys. I got a little farther along in the last two evenings and should finish it this weekend. Here it is with the wood and butt cap fit. All I have to do is shape the rough parts and make a finial to hold it all together.

At this point I stopped and drilled and put allignment pins in the butt though the bronze and into the wood. that way I can start shaping everything and rely on it going back like it was. This is just after I marked the front and back "circumference" of the fittings. I leave the wood proud and carefully work it inward till I get what I want. Still a long way to go, but you can see where I'm headed.

even an old crumudgeon like me learns something with your WIP threads Lin, great job.
Thanks guys. I just buffed the ironwood but its not ready for pictures yet. Maybe this weekend sometime.
I snapped a picture when I set down to eat.

Another beauty Lin!!

Nice work Lin what did you stain the handle with.
Rob
Thank you guys. I didn't stain it. That's the natural color of the wood.
Thats as pretty as a ladys leg Lin. :notworthy:
You're an artist with your damascus, but I must say a nice shiny stainless look is my favorite. Simple, elegant and beautiful. I'm not sure if I like this or your sub-hilt better, but either would be a dream to own.
:notworthy: indeed
Thanks for posting,
Rusty
Another fine work from a true gentleman. Beautiful, once again Lin.
Lynn, That's one sexy knife. One of these days I'll have to get you to build me one.

Man Lin, she's a beauty.
Many times an image hides things. As is the case with this one. Usually, however, the hiden things are best left hiden. Not the case here. I had the good fortune to see the finished blade before handle and guard installation. The facet that jumped out at me that doesn't show in the images is the incredible hardening lines from the clay application. In the hand the light plays like a halo gram and the effect is stunning! I have serious envy of the skill and talent shown in the design and execution on this one. Thanks for taking the time to doccument the process and sharing it here.
Chris
Thanks for the kind words guys. :campfire:
God, another artwork. I bow my head, sir.
WOW.................
