Title: Long & lean from Potomac Forge
Post by: Steve Nuckels on May 20, 2012, 08:46:00 PM
Here is my latest finished project I made for a trade with a friend.  This knife was a long time comming, I forged it in 2010 and just got around to finishing it.  Kevin Evans generously sent me some steel when I made the switch from stock removal to forging.  Thanks Kevin

5160 steel 9" blade 14.5" OAL with a sharpened clip.  File worked mild steel guard.  Figured curly maple handle with fancy scalloping, stained with Aqua Fortis (Nitric Acid), Tung oil finish.  The sheath is Basswood & deer skin lined with raised pattern.  If the handle looks alittle chunky, it is, the new owner has some big hands and he requested a thick handle.

You do some beautiful work, Steve.  I like the way you seem to always add a special touch to an already well-made handle.  Very nice piece!   :)

Thank you for the kind comments!

Fun project, I had planned to include silver wire inlay, but my friend did not want any, with the nice maple I don't think it needs it!

Steve,

That is a beautiful and imaginative knife. I really like it and think you did a wonderful job on it. You have come a long way, and your work shows it.
