Title: Knife making fun with Dave Ricke
Post by: Bigriver on March 02, 2012, 09:54:00 PM
Seeing as I have no work, knifemaker and good friend Dave Ricke decided to put me to work and make a few knives. Dave is a new sponsor, please check out his work.

Basically I stopped at his shop to bs & he hands me a piece of steel & says make a knife                 Oh oh, my new name is knifewrecker!

I`ll post some random pics of his shop & my attempts at making something that is Ricke shop worthy.

A few shop pics.

OOOO! I like the Ricke Knives I saw last year at the PBS thing in WI. He was set up in the booth next to my wife and I. Not a bad bow maker either.  I will watch this one.

Down to business, I dont have a lot of the rough stage, I did most of the drudgery of cutting & grinding so no pics. Here is Dave fixing one of my blade grinding screw ups, so you know I did some work  :knothead:

My skinner being sanded, more drudgery. I cant screw that up, I hope.

One of Dave`s knives ready for etching. The scales are a special dying process cow bone he does, the pics dont do it justice. It was sooo cool.

My other blade is the one on the left after heat treating.

After the guard is soldered on. The scales I think will be the ebony in the pic. I wanted the bufalo horn again, but my piece is not big enough.

Thanks for the kind words. Just about done with the last knife & sheaths. I will try and post pics tonight. Sure was fun, it makes one appreciate the price of a custom knife. Dave will be at Waterloo with a dispay and I`m going to tag along to help in his booth.

Great thread. I was lucky enough to get one of Dave's knives in the swap a couple of years ago. Great little hunter that I carry into the woods every time I head out.

Beautiful knife (actually knives as they are all great).  Wish I could afford to bid what this one is really worth.  Someone will be a very happy bidder.
