How about...Chuck's ?
Seriously tho, are you looking for a personal name for THAT knife? or a model name??
CHUCK(see above)
PS, That is really nice Lin.Just right.
Model name. I make this model a lot and have yet to apply a name. This one has a 4 1/4 inch blade.
Field knife or Fancy field.
I went simple as this is about as useful of a shape that a nife can be for, well, field use.A little To big for an EDC so you will pack it when you go out and about,in the field. It will do a tremendous amount of work, from camp to Elk chores.
CTT
I don't know what a good name would be but that is a beauty for sure.
I'd be more inclined to name that damascus pattern. Beautiful!
Do you have names for some of your others? Might want to keep up a theme if you do.
Well since Chuck got on it first how 'bout "Two Tracks". Very nice knife there.
I got another,
"Countryman"
CTT
How about ( Mighty Fine Hunter) that sounds like your bragging and you should.
Dana
The Fire Blade
How bout "Just Right"
"The Gentelman" or a "Gentelmans" knife
Lin, how about the "Ouachita" Hunter, named after a large lake in Arkansas!
I Googled Arkansas lakes & rivers
http://www.arkansas.com/places-to-go/lakes-rivers/lake.aspx?id=23
Other good choices as well!
BTW, great looking Knife!
Steve
--------
Potomac Forge
ABS Apprentice
Lin, that is a mighty fine piece.
Although you probably make this knife with any number of differing damascus patterns or handle material, the first name that came to mind for this particular knife was "Twisted Stag".
If you are looking to name the general theme, shape, and size, then I like Steve's suggestion.
Comrade or confidant come to mind. Looks like a friend you can trust to me. At any rate, that is an awesome knife!!!
Lin,
By any name that model is amazing. I am still waiting for you to let me know when you are going to make me one. :saywhat:
Allan
Thanks for your suggestions. I especially like The "Two Tracks Hunter" but dont want to step on Chuck's toes with that one. I might reserve that for the future. :D If you dont mind Chuck.
The Ouachita Hunter is a good one, but a fellow maker has that already.
I am think that this knife will be a lot of places before it's all over a done. It was made in Arkansas and it travels. Thus, I'm thinking "Arkansas Traveler Hunter". Not sure yet, What do yall think?
"Arkansas Traveler" gets my nod Lin.That knife is wonderful. Can't wait to see mine!
David
I just heard that Arkansas Traveler is taken so back to the search.
David, it'll be there soon.
Grant County Companion
Natural State Traveler
Roamer
Trekker
Arkansas is from the Quapaw (Sioux) word "acansa," which means "downstream place" or "south wind."
That is a "Bad Boy" if I've ever seen one. Great looking knife. What is the price range on that "Bad Boy"? Outstanding work as usual.
Great suggestions Gabriel. I like those. It prompts me to think of "Back Country Hunter" but I like Roamer.
Lin
That knife looks Western to me so here are some of my suggestions. Back Country Classic, Yellowstone Hunter, Cut Bank Classic, Deer Lodge Hunter, Bear Tooth Hunter, Big Horn Hunter, or how about Missouri River Classic for the River Lewis and Clark traveled. If you chose my name do I get a free knife?
Scott
How bout
Arkansas Nomad
Arkansas Ranger
Arkansas Rover
Arkansas Drifter
Well,I do like the sounds of a "Two Tracks Companion"
And to add another thought, I can see that stuck on the belt of a old riverboat gambler so I came up with. You know, like Tom Sawyer days.
Riverman.
Gambler.
Vagabond.(to roam about)(this name may appear on a bow soon as well ;) )
Here are a couple ideas out of my crazy head:
In reference to the bladesmithing school: Old Washington Traveler or Old Washington Wanderer
Another possibility has an Earth theme to it: I pulled up a soil map to your area figuring that the raw materials come from the earth and that might be a neat angle for a name. Two soils from your neck of the woods that sounded fitting to me are: Rosalie and Sawyer.
Beautiful knife, I always admire your work.
Andrew
This really is helpful guys.
I'm liking "Vagabond Hunter" and "Ranger"
Classic partner!
Classic companion!
Really nice classic style and beautiful piece!
I agree with scott, it has a western look to it. So how about keeping it simple and just calling it your "Western Hunter"?
Whatever you name it, it brings to my mind wanderings in incredible places. Like the Wind River Region or many similar places. I love the knife overall outstanding Stag and Damascus.
Chris
looks like a GENTLEMENS CAPER! i think that would be a simple and fitting name.
Here are my thoughts : Use one or combine any two^^
Forrester
Rangerblade
Woodsman (Guessing this one's taken)
Omniblade
Huntblade
Oz-Hunter
My favorite,
Akakaze Hunter/Blade/Knife (from Quapaw meaning 'Land of Downriver People', or from Sioux meaning 'People of the South Wind'. The origin of the word Arkansas)
Thought of some more,
Lowland Hunter/Caper
Lowlander
Little Rock Caper
Beautiful Lin..........simply BEAUTIFUL :notworthy: :notworthy:
I like the "Wind River" theme.
Hows about "Wind River Companion"
or..............
"Wind River Traveler"
or..............
"Wind River Hunter"
Winterhawk1960
Nomad
Rhea "Ideal" or "Optimal" or "Quintessential"
Nomad hunter was in my mind before I saw nomad was suggested. Also thought about rambler.
Lin, that knife flows so well, you should name it after a river. There is a large glacial river here named the Delta, in the same vicinity as the famous Little Delta River. So, the Delta hunter, has kindof a southern ring to it also.
Gentlemens Hunter came to mind when i fist saw it.
A few others are:
Gentlemens Classic
Classic Hunter
Traditional Hunter
Classic Woodsmen
Classic Caper
I had another come to me in my sleep,
The Kinsman
CTT
dont care what you call it, but its as good as a hunter gets! great stag too. I like those simple, clean, perfectly executed little hunters.
How about the "Rhea Essential"? I would love to call it mine.
Lin here are a few more,
Wilderness Packer
Big Horn Hunter
Bridger Hunter
Lin Special Hunter
Scott Special Hunter
Wyoming Stag Hunter
The Bloody Bozeman
I agree with Dustin and Mike. Nomad fits that knife Lin.
The pattern of the Damascus looks like those of the wood Wenge.
Lin's works are magnificence...so how about one for The Gentleman...Linge Hunter/Ranger
I'd call it Mike Westerlund's
;)
Nice work as usual!
Beautiful knife!....here's some suggestions
1- The Okolona Special
2- The Trail of Tears Skinner
3- Red River Hunter
Thanks for the chance to name your knife
Gene
You guys have been very helpful. I have decided to call on the one person that can truely help me decide, my wife :readit: . She picked "Vagabond" (wanderer)as in "Vagabond Hunter". We thought several of your suggestions were great and I am very thankful for your consideration of the chosing of the name.
Good choice in going with family help. My handle "mater" came from my son.
"Vagabond Hunter"....good name....suits the knife Lin
Thanks guys and I thank Chuck for the suggestion since his was what we decided upon. I do think knife will experience some wanderings where ever it goes.
COOL! I always liked that name for something Lin. I am glad you and the wife liked it as well.
It is a great looking knife.
Happy New Year.
CTT
Bet they won't wander far from the original owners!
vag·a·bond /ˈvagəˌbänd/
Noun: A person who wanders from place to place without a home or job.
Adjective: Having no settled home.
First, I can think of MANY jobs for that knife. Second, I can't see that knife having a problem settling in at a nice home. ;)
I'm not sure any name would truly do it justice. Anduril, Flame of the West would work... :D
It's a beauty, Lin.
Rusty
A play on "Arkansas Travel Hunter"
"Ark Hunter"
Ark for Arkansas and
Ark for well you know 40 days and 40 nights of travel.
Ooops just saw you have one picked out a good one at that.
Thank you guys for helping me. One meaning of Vagabond is "wanderer". It dont have the negative connotation as perhaps the first. Maybe it will have a home and a job eventually. :)
"Mighty Waters"..........
One sweet knife you got there.
"Sweetheart" came to mind.
lin , did you have those handles dyed or purchase them like that?
Thanks guys.
The scales were dyed.
"PERFECTION"....sez it all!
"The Bobcat"
Well don't know if you have named it yet or not but to me it looks like a city guy type of knife, therefore I would name it the "City Slicker" or "The Executive".
I like your Vagabond Hunter name. Now, how about matching it up with a complimentary Wayfarer Skinner? That would make a tremendous set.
Colouring of both blade & handle makes me think of the name "PINTO" because of the contrasting colours ,also it has that western sound as well
