I need some help on deciding between a RMK # 25 and # 27. I would like to hear from you and see pics of your knives. Now for the big one. Any recommendations on where to find them. I looked on the web but when I see price jumps of a few to several hundred dollars I thought I would ask why.
I see several show cases full at every Michigan gun show. The #27 is a skinner and would be my pick...Roy
I owned a Pathfinder with stag handle. Bought it new for $350 and sold it used for the same. A fine knife, but mine didn't impress me as a working knife for gritty use in tough hunting environments. I have owned a number of knives which were less attractive but more suited for hard use. Still...the Pathfinder or Bird/Fish/Small Game models (numbers escape me) would be my choice of Randall knives.
Five year wait on a new one from the factory would explain the price jumps.
As you can see, I prefer the Model 25-5 Trapper. Well balanced, fits the hand, and a little shorter blade than the #27. Thumb notch and top of hilt molded for thumb placement.

The 5 year wait explains why you pay more than you would from Randall. Not why 2 model # 25 set up the same way and no special event knife should be selling for 500.00 more than a knife already marked up 50%. That's why I was wondering where people got their knives from as well.
Thunder, call Randall and find a dealer in your area... Most of the Randall dealers will get your knife for you in a far shorter time then if you order it direct. My dealer is charging me catalog price and only about a 3-4 month wait. I am a fan of the Randall 11-5, however I would choose the 25-5 over the 27 IMHO. Hope this helps.... Tu Compadres, Sutty
I have four Randalls. the model 25-5 inch blade is the perfect hunting knife. good luck they are all nice.

Rick your the one. It's that picture of your knife that has me sleeping on the couch. Yep I got caught drooling over it. Thank You. A good nights sleep with something to dream about. That is a good looking knife.

I've been known to lead a few folks astray. :saywhat:
Randall is committed to their dealers. The dealer that orders one to two dozen knives every quarter gets priority consideration over a single knife order from an individual.
My Model 5 - 5" after 27 years of faithful service.

They are a Randall dealer and can get you one ordered in 6-8 months. They also have quite a few new and near new in stock.
Also try the Randall Knife Society. Several outlets advertise in their newsletter.
When you guys where starting this topic,I was trying my first Randle (look alike)
I was at our local taxidermy shop ,guy comes in starts talking about caping his deer with his Randle knife.
He showed it to me ,I said I make knives, his reply bet you can't make one like this,I said your probably correct, but I can try.
He gave me the knife I traced it out,he commissioned me to make it .
Don't know what modle he had,but the guy really like the knife.
Please excuse the oil on the blade it was taken just for the guy to aproval with cell phone (http://i307.photobucket.com/albums/nn293/coonpeter/IMG_2085.jpg) (http://i307.photobucket.com/albums/nn293/coonpeter/IMG_2086.jpg)Thanks for loking and as always critism is more than welcome
Thought maybe you guys would like to see it.
I like it Kevin, Because it says EVANS on it and you did a very good job

Great looking knife!
I prefer the drop point so the #25 would get my vote. also the Randall knife society has disbanded. following the death of Rhett Stidham last April.
Suty, that is a nice combo and sheath as well. Kevin, I own three Randalls and your knife looks every bit as good.
Dont know if you resolved your Randall issues but I would go with a 25-5. I've had several 25s but regret selling the one with the micarta handle. A near perfect knife. I use an older 11-5 now. They had more drop and point than now.
Still use the 3-5 my dad gave me 33 years ago for Christmas. Cost then 80 bucks!
For what it's worth, I got Jason Randall started in Trad bowhunting last year- gave him a Schafer Silvertip !
This thread introduced me to the Randall. I like the 25-5. Googled it and got to look at a few. One for sale here in the classifieds, but a bit much money-wise right now. It's on the list, though and I'm an impatient sort. Be nice to have on the belt this Fall me thinks...
I have a Randall 25-6 and it is my general carry knife-I love it for that purpose. I ordered a 26-4 5 years ago and it came 2 weeks before my first grandson-saving it for him. I also carry a swafford autumn hunter for dressing game-unsurpassed for that task. The swafford is very close in size and shape to the Randall model 26.
I have a Randal simply because I think someone who likes knives should own a bit of history and there is no denying the place Randal has in knife history. I don't find them as well finished as many equal or less expensive custom knives, but an o-1 blade, properly heat treated, should handle any task. I haven't used mine and won't. I carry one of my own knives. I do put one on order each year, though. Each year I get a notice my knife is ready, I pay for it and turn an instant $100 profit. When they stop appreciating, and I'm sure they will eventually, I'll quit buying them and keep the 25-5 I got first.
The Model 11-4 "Alaskan Skinner",the Model 20-5 "Yukon Skinner", the Model 21 "Little Game", and the Model 25-5 "Trapper" are my favorite Randall knives. The 25-5 "Trapper" says Randall like no other knife in the Randall line. The one thing I'll say about Randall is they hold their value like few others and that will be true for years to come. You can't say that about most of the $500 knives that show up today. Its all about marketing my friends, and Randall has one heck of a head start.
