Title: Small vise for file work
Post by: Rusty Snuffers on October 12, 2011, 10:29:00 AM
Does anyone have experience with either the Proxxon 28608 Precision Vise, PanaVise 301 or the PanaVise Jr 201?  I'm looking for a small, low-cost vise to hold my knives while doing file work.

Thanks in advance.
Rusty

I have one of the PanaVises...a smaller one. Not sure which one though. Works good for me.

Rusty I have those small panda vise that pivits on a ball it works ok,as long as you can move around it.
Heres one I made that works better for file work. Its not very difficult to make and as you can see it can be rotated several ways.
The key here is it is narrow at the top and taperd so your file never hits it.
Mine is on a stand in the middle of the room so I can walk clear around it.
It may look big but this liner clamped in it is only 3.5"
Made out of some 3/8" steel I had laying around .drill couple of holes and get couple of bolts to hold it together.    (http://i307.photobucket.com/albums/nn293/coonpeter/IMG_1973.jpg)   (http://i307.photobucket.com/albums/nn293/coonpeter/IMG_1974.jpg)

Apparently I'm a prevert(INTENTIONAL CORRECT SPELLING) like Dana since the first thing I noticed was the calendar!!!  :D    ;)
