Title: Oglala Scalper/Hunter *SHEATH*
Post by: Steve Nuckels on July 25, 2011, 03:17:00 PM
Just finished this knife the "Oglala Scalper" This knife would look good on your hip with your Longbow or your Muzzleloader.  Maybe even if your on a War Party on the great plaines!

Forged 5160 edged quenched and etched, stained curly maple with silverwire inlay and stippling.  Guard and pommel forged/etched wrought iron from an old wagon.
9 5/8" OAL, 4 5/8" blade.  with just a little forge texture on the blade flats near the spine.

Starting on a rawhide sheath via John Cohea's DVD

Very nice! The handle is beautiful and would definitely look good with my Longbow or my recurve.

Chad, I did use a dremmel with a diamond tip. A very small carbide ball cutter will work better.  The stippeled area is maple, I stained it then stippeled to see progress, then stained again.

I'm going to use stippeling more and different shades of stain together for more contrast on future projects.

Thats nice, I do favor the embelishment to be on the handle. So that fits the bill to a T.

It's basswood lined tanned cowhide, deer skin lined with a piece of beaver tail and fox squirrel rawhide.  Brass spots & cones with horse tail hair.  And a scrimshawed & polished deer antler halfmoon.

The sheath is very original and a great compliment to the knife, excellent work of art there.

Awsome Work!! When I see Fine Wire work like that, the word "Elven" comes to Mind!! Being a bit of a Lord of the Rings Junkie, its Beautiful enough for an Elf Warrior to Carry!!
