I have some old cow bones that I would like to use for knife scales. I'm concerned about how pourus they are on the inside. My question is: Have any of you used bones for scales and how did you seal them?
plyurethane and acetone 50/50
Try to cut the bone where there is no marrow area on the surface. Split the bone and remove material from the middle out. I find that shin bones are best, but that also means it has to be a big specimen and cut just right.
Thanks Lin,
I have 10-12 shin bones from cows and think they will make great handles. Does the poly/acetone mix make them slick?
No. It just fills the pores mostly, unless you apply it last.
