Title: Wire Inlay on a using knife
Post by: Renaissance Man on November 20, 2010, 09:56:00 PM
I have the great fortune to now possess a beautiful knife from my friend Jay Hendricksen and it has his famous wire inlay on the handle.
I was reading on a knife site and a fellow made a comment that he does not use his knife with wire inlay outdoors. No other comments made.
Is there a reason why the inlay would not be strong on a well made knife?

When I was learning the basics I put wire inlay on a some tool handles and random stuff in the shop... no problem with those even though there's no finish over them.

If it's done right it should hold up with any knife.

And I would add, few, if any can do wire inlay better than Jay!

I would love to see that knife!  Can you post a photo?

Sheath is Bass wood lined, and it as solid as the knife. Very heavy duty.

Thank you Sir!  That's a beauty for sure!  I love Jay's work and he is a very nice guy and  good teacher.  I had the rare opportunity to forge a knife at W.F. Moran's shop under Jay and A.G. Barnes watchful eyes.

You are a fortunate son Steve. I helped Bill out with traditional archery twenty years, or more ago when I had my traditional shoppe, kept him and Jay in arrows and bows for some time.
Jay said he still has the bow I sold Bill mounted above his fireplace.
We spent hours together and Denton Hill, classic gentlemen and they deserve the title Master Smith.
I told Jay as much as it is a piece of art I would be using this knife the way it should be. He told me he wishes more would, that he builds everyone for the feel and toughness they need to survive and he has a bunch out there that have been used all around the world.
I hope to bloody it this fall
