With Bear Quest about a month away and not having a forge all winter, I had some catching up to do. I forged my 2010 broadheads from 5160 with a LW convex single bevel for Benjy's tonkin cane arrows. They weigh in right around 300 grains. I'll be shooting a special Osage selfbow that a friend made me...who recently lost his battle with a brain tumor.
I also forged up a few knives that I need to finish...but I couldn't resist my version of the Battle of the Bladesmiths. At this year's Great Smokey MT Blade Symposium, four Master Smiths had 2 hours to completely finish forging a blade that would pass the rope cutting contest. Mine isn't big enough to do that but I did complete this "no frills" bear skinner in under two hours. The Test will come in bear camp to see if it skins a bear without re-sharpening :) tippit

That would be such a thrill to take a bear and skin it with broadheads and a knife from your own shop!
Somebody tell me how it gets better than that!
nice... i need to find more time in a day...

Ditto! Looks great Tippit!
I would bet both the broadheads and the knife will pass the test. Those are beauties.
I think that feat is an annual event for Tippit!!
Looking good Doc.
The bears are in trouble
I look forward to hearing about your hunt Jeff. Lin

:notworthy: :notworthy: :notworthy:
Shoot straight, Shinken
Those have just about the highest "cool" factor of anything I have ever seen! Amazing.
The knife looks like it will be OK too... ;)
It would be a very nice tribute to your friend to take a bear with that bow he made.
No doubt your broadheads and knife are up to the task, and they look good too.
Good luck and shoot straight! Dan
those look really good.
Wowww great work you done and those arrows are impressive. i wish you good luck to your hunt and to be always on target with that special bow!!
Dang, awesome!
I carried a few blades in the service that I tied 550 on the handle for "just in case". Have always liked that as a handle.
The heads look nasty, nasty in a good way.
Good luck fufilling your tribute to your buddy.
Doc, good work. Post pics of the unlucky bear that they are used on.
Great looking heads, Jeff.
I wish I was going to be there to videotape for you!
