i have access to a couple dozen of these but someone told me there was a harmful chemical in the steel when hot. i think hes full of it,any oppinions?
never heard that before. I make knives from them all the time.<><
I've used several too! I would'nt recomend intentionaly breathing the vapors off of any forge work!any where there is fire there is somthing not to healthy in the vapor. First and formost is carbon monoxide silent but deadly!!!! Think ventilation!
I seem to remember reading that fumes from galvanized metal was toxic but that's it.
ya im gonna tell the guy ill take them he figures he has 2 or 3 milk crates full of worn out ones.i work in a steel quanset so ventilation isnt a issue i just open up the big doors. thanks guys
The fumes from galvanized will kill ya dead! Period. :readit:

Galvanized is toxic.Been poisoined with the fumes. Not something you want to do.
Farrier rasps make a fine edge. I use them for work and keep the old ones for blades. The rasps are made of high carbon steel and I've never seen one that's galvanized.
Other than that it seems you've found a nice stash. grab em up. If anything you can use less aggressive side for hot rasping your metalwork.
ya he gave me a couple and the rest are on their way ill probly get them after harvest now.if any one is looking for some let me know, i like trades.
