Hey all,
I have been looking at a couple places at some knife kits. One of them is Texas Knifemaker. They look like some very nice kits. I have thought about getting one and trying it out. Seems like a good way to get into seeing whats involved in "making" a knife from scratch.
There are several styles that I like but first I would like to ask and see what you all think of these knife kits. How is the quality, are they worth the time and effort or should I just start from scratch if I want to make my own knife for the first time?
I'd like to hear your thoughts...
Thanks for your time.

TX Knifemaker Supply does have some high quality kits.
Just make sure whatever you buy its made in the USA so you are getting quality steel.
There's a lot of Pakistan and Indian stuff floating around out there and the steel is sometimes subpar.
Ray hit it right on the head.
And a kit is an excellent way to get started, especially if your tool collection is minimal.

There is also a very wise and experienced bladesmith that offers his kits. His name is Jerry Van Eizenga of Michigan. His work is award winning. All I have for him is a phone number for contact info. Lin

Can you either post or PM me that number? If he makes stick tangs I would like to check into getting some blades.Currently I make only stick tangs untill I can afford better tools.I've been making scandi bladed knives because I've had trouble getting any other style in a steel I know is good.
I'd like to have his info too please.
Thanks

I'm not sure if he offers kits for fixed blades but you can ask. I saw that he has kits for folders. I saw this in a recent magazine article, but cant put my hands on it now. I'll PM you both. Lin
