hey all, Ive recently started in the knife making world and have seen people making blades out of circular saw blades. was wondering exactly what blades are used , where do you locate some of the larger ones. and any pointers on heat treatment processes for them. any info would be greatly appreciated thanks... matty
Avoid carbide tipped blades. Heat treat is just like any other steel, IMO.
No idea where to obtain larger ones, you can buy them new, but it aint cheap.
I've made several from non-carbide tipped 10" table saw blades. I just cut them out with a dremel and used a lot of water on them to keep from over heating them. I didn't heat treat the ones that I did and they seemed to sharpen up well and keep a pretty decent edge. But I think there is a "how to" on this forum from someone that shows his process for heat treating circular/table saw blades.
