Title: C.A. Glue
Post by: DANA HOLMAN on April 06, 2009, 03:32:00 PM
can anyone tell me if they have had problems with c.a. glue finshes?, i had just finshed a handle and put c.a. on the handle, (now i have file work on the spine so i taped it off), when i went to take the tape off, the finsh pealed right off around the tang.
i there for had to peal the hole thing off, if any one has run across this problem please let me know or if you can tell me what i did wrong.
thanks dana

Could be a shot in the dark here, but did you treat the surfaces before putting on the glue? I always scuff the surface a little with either 340 or 400 grit sandpaper, even between coats. That helps the glue adhere to whatever surface you have

What kind of wood? Some woods like cocobolo are very oily and would need to be wiped down with acetone several times before any finish can be applied. In my experience any ways.
