I hammered out a knife from a leaf out of a truck and need to heat treat it. Could someone recomend a good way to do this ? Thanks Drew
Depending on the age of the truck, it's likely 5160 or something very close to it. 5160's nickname isn't OCS for nothing! (Old Chevy Spring)
You'll need to normalize it a few times. Then take up to critical, quench in oil, and temper at 350-450 degrees depending on what your using the knife for.
Thanks Jeremy , Thats the way I did my file knife I'm working on . Thanks again. Drew
