I have a knife and axe combo that I am redoing the handles for.

I'm wanting to do something darker maybe a dark red. My questions is I'm kinda limited to shopping places (Lowes or 84 Lumber are close no saw mills) I'm looking at 6in L * 2in W for each.
Oak or hickory then dye it to your liking.
Some cocobola would be nice. Regrettably, not to be found at Lowe's or H Depot. Maybe someone has some scaps for a swap. It doesn't grow around here-- too bad. Good luck. Larry
You are on the internet, you have lots of wood available. Check out the auction sites for small quantities, or Bingham Projects.
Or Griffin Exotic Woods.
Is there a woodcarver's association around? They always have scraps. Some of my best exotics come from them. Lin
Get in touch with some cabinet or furniture makers in your area. They usually have a ton of small scrap left over!
Thanks for the info guys I will check into your suggestions.
KennyM (Tradgang) has small pc's.
I recently got a bunch of hickory from a cabinet maker's shop.
Had a dumpster full of it!
Especially look for the knotty and figured material that does not shape easily and they hate to run through their planers and such.
