this is actually the first blade i ever forged. i got some 1095 bar stock and it was only 3/16 thick so it was thin to begin with. so if i tried to get all the hammer marks out of it , it would have been too thin. other than that its a great knife. first time dealing with 1095 and was happy with the results. hardened up really nice. the spalted elm came from my front yard.

Nice,I'm a sucker for those spalted handles!
as the usaul these pictures are not great. soon as i got my sheath done i took my old belt knife off and put this one on. so far i really like to way it performs. i just have to remember to keep it oiled. anyone got suggestions on keeping a carbon balde from rusting other than oiling all the time. i dont mind color change but i wont have rust on it
AWESOME! Like that one a lot!
Cool looking knife right there.
Looks great!
this knife has changed a bit sense i took this picture. sense i carry this knife i test all my ideas on it. this is 1095 and i could see the hammon line a bit so tried ecthing it first i tried the viniger thing with not much luck then i found some ferric cloride from radio shack and tried it again. well it didnt make that hammon line stand out like i wanted but it did darken the blade alot. kinda like carbon steel changes colors after years of use. i like it . just thought i would add som info about how this knife is being used,. i have use it as a hacking tool many times choping different stuff with not one edge role ever. i would like to thank all the people here that answered my questions even though i might ask them twice. thanks everyone
Thats awesome, I love the looks of the hammer marks! Oh, and you gotta love the spalted elm!
That is real nice, make sure you keep that one!
