Title: TINY COPY OF TIPPIT SKINNER
Post by: sticshooter on January 10, 2009, 10:55:00 AM
Well awhile back doc made and posted a tiny skinner he made from a file. That knife cost me many hours of sleep. He gave it to Tim fishell last year. I made a neck sheath for the knife for Tim and also told him I wanted first dibbs on it if he ever decided to part with it    "[dntthnk]"   . Well I decided to try and make one kinda like it. this is what I ended up with. Blade is from a farriers rasp and is 2" oal is 4.25" bocote and cocobolo handle. I did(or tried) a flat grind. all in all It's no Tippit but I am happy with it. For now anyways.

Ya know I really kinda like these Rasps. Almost as much as sawblades. Just finishing up a hidden tang bowie from the other part of this skinner. As a matter of fact it's in the oven as I type this.<><

A small group of us did a Christmas exchange last year.  It was done like a secret santa type so nobody knew who thier gift came from.  I love small knives and until not to long ago I never knew who made this knife.  I got the knife and fell in love with it.  I found out Doc made it and then it made perfect sense why it is such a great knife.  It didnt come with a sheath so I right away dropped Frank a line and asked if he could make me a neck sheath for it.  Oh course in true fashion he made me a sheath and charged me nothing.  At that time he didnt tell me who made it but told me that if I ever sold it he had first dibs.  Here are some pics of my knife:

OH man yes Doc it still works great.  That thing has skinned many squirrels and rabbits and has breasted out a few grouse and turkeys.
