Hello all,
I'm Jon Christensen. I've been a member here for a short while (mainly lurking). My friend Doug Campbell suggested that I join up as an associate sponsor so here I am. Now a little about myself.
I'm 45 and live in Shepherd, Mt. (8 miles east of Billings) with my wife (Brenda) of 23yrs. We have two girls or should I say yound women now since my oldest is 22 and my youngest is preparing for her first year in College. My wife and I are still coming to grips with the empty nest thing.
In 1999 my family and I decided to move back to our home state of Mt. I left my job as a Horticulturist with Georgia Pacific and my wife got a job transfer to Billings. We moved back so the kids could spend more time with their grandparents (and we really love Montana).
Being the bullheaded type I wanted to work for myself after years of working for others.
I started making knives in 1999 when we moved here. I didn't know anything about knifemaking but dove in fulltime and treated it just like I did my college degree, living and breathing knives for the next 7 years.
In 2006 I attained my Mastersmith (MS) Rating with the American Bladesmith Society (ABS).
I make all types of knives. Hunters, folders, bowies, just about anything.
I've been shooting a bow since grade school. I shot my brothers compound that he had in college but it just didn't take (for either of us). I prefer to keep things simple when I'm hunting.
I currently shoot a longbow made by Rich Wormingtom from Wyoming.
I love hunting, fishing, camping and all that goes along with them.
Guess that's about it for now. I've been long winded enough I think.
Thanks,
Jon
Now, I wanna see some of your work!!!

Thanks guys, I appreciate it.
I've posted two knives on the sponsors classifieds for those interested. The pic is a little grainy but that may take a little time to work out.
Thanks,
Jon
I just saw the photos in your website. For those that haven't been there, yet, GO!!! You're gonna love the "leaf pattern" damascus folder!! Jon, you've raised the bar.
Welcome Jon,
You certainly make some spectacular knives. This is just great having another professional maker around the fire...tippit
Glad to see you made it Jon, like the others said, tickled to have another friend and Pro Knifesmith on board.
Ya ready to go fishing, had a great caddis hatch yesterday evening bout sunset, slayed em!!
Doug
Thanks guys, Just remember to ask questions if you have them, I don't have any secrets!!!! I'm happy to help where I can.
Doug,
Yeh, I'm going but gonna try a reservoir with my brother tomorrow. Hopefully get into some bass and crappie. I got a new bellyboat for fathers day and have only had it out once. It's a u-tube so I don't have to crawl into it with my fins on like my old one. This ones like a barkolounger (spelling?). The wife said she'd fashion a beer holder onto it for me soon too, maybe tonight.
Jon
welcome to the family :campfire:
Wow, your knives are impressive!
Dan
Hi Jon
Really like your knives, my favorite is the folder.
I have a question on your kydex sheaths.
Does the stuff come in different thickness and how tough is it to work with?
Thanx, RS
Jon, Your knives are beautiful! That pig skin hunter knocked me out...beautiful lines, no frills, and simple eloquence. Guess I really like it! tippit
I've only been working with kydex for a short time but really like it. I get my supplies through knifekits.com (http://www.knifekits.com/vcom/index.php?cPath=41&osCsid=27c9a7731e1632c293b195cdbf226b77) .
You heat it to 350 degrees, fold it and put the knife between the fold, then press it between foam. It's almost that easy. Getting everything to look good and secure the knife just right takes some practice however.
Jon
Thanks Jon
I was thinking about something for leaving on a shoulder strap of a badlands pack that is weather proof. Also a axe holder on a sled running board. RS
just saw your ad in eastmas magazine jon, that knife is slick
I had this link on another post but thought it might be good to post it here also. It's a pretty good tutorial.

Chris, What did you think of the Ad? Does it look alright?
I love those Damascus hunters!!!
Jon
it looked great! and i know it costs more but my only suggestion is to get it a bit bigger so it stands out more.
Your leaf style Damascus is awesome!
This may be the most amazing looking knife I have ever seen!! http://www.jonchristensenknives.com/images/leafFolder2005.jpg I don't have a clue how you created the metal pattern in this knife and some of your others. It blows my mind.
Allan
had a folder shown to me the other day that fits your style it had a large steel center with bronze copper and some nickel or ss steel damascus for the blade and steel copper damascus for the handle. The damascus on the blade was a ladder or wave pattern it was really cool lookin. I wish I had pictures.
I think you just raised the bar around here - A LOT!
Welcome
