Title: I'm going in tomorrow!
Post by: wckid2 on March 02, 2013, 01:50:00 AM
I'm only 43 and scheduled to have my right knee replaced on march 25th. I'm in ok shape and wonder who on here has had the surgery. Im curious how it went for you and how long the rehab took. Was the surgery a sucess and was it worth while. What are you able to do fitness wise. Thanks in advance Don Baine. Tomorrow is the day. I'm going in to have my rt knee replaced. I'm a little nervous to have this procedure done. Please wish me luck in a prayer please. Thanks Don Baine.

43 WOW! Your knee must be in rough shape!
They usually like to hold off on someone as young as you for replacement surgery.
I have never had it done but have had two uncles that have and they were like new men!
I would say your rehab will go as well as how much you put into it. That is going to be tough at first, but be persistent! And stick to it!!! Make it your religion! Be patient too. Go only as fast as they tell you because you CAN over do it and suffer a set-back.
Good luck

I had my right knee done 3 times. Be careful of any other medical procedures in weeks before or after knee replacement including dental work. Do your rehab as told, do not be lazy or give into the pain. I spent a lot of time at physical therapy center and saw a lot of others come through with knee replacements. No one else had problems like mine so do not be afraid, nearly all work out very well. I had other medical complications that contributed to an infection.  3 years later I am walking good with no pain. I can not bend my knee as far as in the past but that is due to scar tissue. Good Luck.

I had Bi-lateral Knee replacements done in Dec. of 2006. I was 44 at the time. Osteoarthritis and many years of sports and manual labor did mine in.

I waited for 3 yrs before I found a Dr. that would perform the surgery at my age. He said the youngest he had ever done was a 45 yr. old who was in a car wreck.

Do as much stretching as possible before the surgery. And follow all Your PT's advise when Your done. Remember most people who are having this surgery are 10-20 yrs. your senior. My PT told me he didn't even know where to start with me. Get up and move.

You can P.M. me any questions you might have.

I hope mine goes as well as others have. My surgeon said if I wasnt serious about getting better than to say so up front. He said if I wasnt serious it would be a waste of my time and money and my health. I hope all on here are well and doing fine. How long did you have to do pt with a therapist. If my eyes sweat a little I will know the work is paying off.

I think I did my PT for about 6-8 weeks each time. The last time I paid out of my own pocket to continue in PT. Insurance covered only so many visits. Because I had so many problmes I  wanted more PT.

Thanks alot everyone. This gives me a little more knowledge and peace of mind. I wish I wouldnt have ever jumped outta planes in the army. I have a right knee of an 80 year old they said. It sure was fun at the time though.

I didnt have knee replacement, but i did triple crown my knee, acl, mcl, meniscus. I went on advice from my dr. To do pre surgeryrehab. Rothman did it, did a fine job. Other people i talked to with similar situation said the pre surgery rehab works wonders. Like the other posts, be diligent my friend with the rehab. It pays off, and try not to succomb to the pills. Prayers going out you and ty for your service in the military.
Side note, i dont know if there going to offer you a machine that fills up with ice and water and forces cold water thru a hose which is attached to a velcro bag that wraps around the knee, pumps it on and off, ac power. My buddy recommended it, so i bougt it. It cost me 100.00, my insurance didnt cover. It is worth it! It helped greatly reduce swelling. My wife just filled it with ice and let the pump do its work. I still do my snowboarding and other activities, and when my knee is sore i put that on for 30 and its a world of difference
