Looking to "vent" a little bit, but to keep it trad related......I must first say that my wife and I both used our 4-wheeler ONLY to bring any game that we either might take out of the woods. It even had the bow carrier on the front and back.
Some SCUMBAG, or perhaps I should say several of them stole our 2003 Kodiak 450 ATV last night while we slept. I know it was out there at dark last night because I was shooting my newly acquired recurve out back. It was cable locked to a sugar maple tree that we planted the year that we moved into our house. They cut the cable in two places like a knife through butter and left it laying on the ground.
I called the local (city) police and made a report just as soon as I noticed it was gone. I have the title and serial number and the key was locked up in my truck......which it still is. We live in a normally quiet little neighborhood and haven't had anything stolen in the 12 years that we have lived here. Even so......I don't risk someone having the chance to make an easy buck and keep things locked....or in this case "cable-locked". I realize that things like this aren't gonna stop a "real thief" but it most generally will keep a person "honest".
I'm madder than hell.......and I usually don't get all riled up about things. I can't stand a thief or a liar, and have absolutely NO tolerance for either. I would give you the shirt off my back.......but.......don't steal from me. It is quite obvious to me that this was a planned ordeal and it took several people to pull it off successfully. I can guarantee you one thing.....if I had caught them they would have looked like porcupines with all the arrows sticking out of their asses.......and I have quite a supply of arrows on hand.
I don't know if our homeowners insurance will cover this or not.....but hope to find out tomorrow. They will have to either hot wire the ATV to get it started or else buy another ignition for it. We are gonna contact all the local ATV shops tomorrow and tell them to be on the lookout for anyone coming in to buy an ignition kit.......but I have little hope of recovering it, at least in my mind.
When the police officer came and took the report this morning I asked him if they had been having any problems around town with such thefts lately and he said......."Not that he had heard of". My fear is that it has been taken "far away" and will be resold WITHOUT a title and will be gone for good. What a disheartening thing it is to "realize" that one cannot have anything and expect people to honor your ownership. We don't have much.......but what we do have we worked hard to pay for and then some low-life THEIF comes along and takes it for his benefit. I guess as my grandmother used to say quite often "It is a sign of the times".....and I fear that the worse is yet to come.
I'm still so mad that I would loose every arrow that I have on hand in their direction and hope that they all found their mark. I will cool off in a few days.......hopefully, but for now I'm just feeling pretty "helpless".

Sorry to hear that Don. There certainly are some scumbags out there.
Hope your insurance covers it.........won't make up for getting ripped off.....but at least it'll help.

Don, sorry to hear about the robbery, but, you and your wife are safe and uninjured. Doesn't always happen that way. Just keep praying that they get what they deserve in the end.
It only takes one guy less than five minutes to cut that cable, push it off, load it in the truck and be down the road. We recovered a car stolen from a guy's garage in between taking out a garbage can to the curb and going back into the house for the kitchen trash. Unfortunately, unless it was kids or they stole it for themselves it's already gone. Most of them are parted out so they really don't care about the key. You never know though, it might turn up.
Sorry to hear this Don. I feel the same way about Thieves and Liars. My Dad taught me to have utter distain for someone who would steal the fruits of your labor. He is also from West Virginia. It's such a feeling of violation to have someone steal from you. I'm glad no one was harmed.

All I can say is I'm sorry for your loss.
But your loss goes beyond the 4wheeler its the loss of security and safety.
You have been violated, you, your home, your family, your neighborhood, your life. It sucks!
I doubt you will see things as innocently any more and for that I am truly sorry but understand totally.
I pray that it will be found.

Feeling helpless - and violated, I'm sure. It's the most strange and disturbing of feelings to realize what's just taken place when you find that something is missing. It's surreal and numbing. Then of course the anger takes over.
So sorry for the loss of the bike, but more importantly of the security of your home. We all like to feel safe in our home and property. You have to work to get that back. I think keeping in mind that you and yours are okay is a good place to start. Others are pulling for you, there's better days ahead....
i am so sorry to hear that buddy.i have lived here more than 15 years.here recently a thief broke into 5 cars on my property.all they took was change i had in the cubby holes.i had a rifle in one trunk,but they didn't get that.it made me feel so violated.i would have given them the money.they are so lucky i didn't hear them out there.they would have been judged by judge colt and his jury of six.the verdict is always guilty.i hope it all works out for you,steve
Thanks for all the support guys......it is really appreciated. I still have a lot to be thank-ful for and I need to dwell on that instead of something that I can do nothing about.

Molson, I don't think in this case it was a "one man" job. Where it was......and there being only one way out made it an impossible feat for one man, even if he were the incredible hulk. It was definately a cased out crime and there were several "thiefs" involved with carrying it out. That thing weighed between 650 and 700 lbs and with the lift kit, wheels and tires it was a real "bear" to push anywhere......let alone up hill.
Whoever it was will someday have to answer for their deeds........and it will be very unlikely that I will be in on the judging. Like someone else said, if I had caught them there wouldn't have been any "survivors" to testify to anything.

sorry to hear of your loss, it makes us so mad we want to shoot everyone we don't know, of course we wouldn't. it's sad we have to be so careful these days who we let come around our homes. there is always that possibility it's someone that has seen it. if they can't see it from the road, makes you kind of wonder who knew it was there. i have some old (so called) party friends i wouldn't allow within a mile of my house. one in perticular, he is a s### eating dog i wouldn't trust in an outhouse with a muzzle on. he stole a check from me before, i couldn't believe he did it, but a hand writing specialist confirmed it was him. i noticed you live in west virgina, i don't know if it's true but someone on craigslist was selling a quad in kentucky, he said they had passed a law that you no longer have to title a quad. i don't know if it's true, you may want to keep a look out since you live across the line. if you see a quad on craigslist that looks like yours and there is something about it you can identify it, and its' within thirty miles of me, i'll go check it out, take a picture of it an send it to you. i would love to see them behind bars. i live in williamsburg, ohio, east of cincinnati. good luck.
I was burlgared (not robbed) in MT of all places...2x! Once broke into my truck and stole a bunch of personal items that were special...and another they broke into my storeroom and stole a ton of things...my scrimshaw collection of Shrade knives...etc.
That was the most violated I ever felt...showers didn't wash off the ugly I felt. There were some powerful insights into vulnerability I never knew up until then that helped me grow in Grace.
May the time spent with bile backing up in your throat pass and you find ways to relate to others who have been violated personally and in property to expand your empathy toward those in need down the road...not in material ways, but perhaps in more meaningful ways.
May the perpetrators get their just deserts sooner than later
thieves have been around since the begining of time, they have always reaped what they soyed. we as GOD'S childern have his grace, but we are not beyond his dispiline. for those that don't have a personal relationship with him, we need to pray for them, they are gonna lose far more than all our material possessions. i know when i feel i've been wronged, praying for them is not my first response, but it should be. i pray you get your quad back, it was a blessing from GOD to you, not to those thieves.
Thanks everyone.........our homeowners insurance isn't going to cover the loss. My only hope is to keep praying that it turns up and hasn't been taken far away or parted out.
We can't afford to buy another one, but will keep the faith that "Gods Will" has been and will be done. If it doesn't find its way back to us then it wasn't meant to be. There must be a lesson in this whole situation somewhere.
We have done all that we can do........I gave the detective in charge of the case some pictures of it and hopefully this will help.

Don, this stinks. Thinking I may need to add theft to my insurance policy on the quad in addition to the liability insurance I have.

Don, if you have the SS# or VIN # post it here. Slim chance but someone might notice an ATV forsale and look/remember the SS#/Vin. I know how you feel working hard/honest to get something then this happens...Maybe it will roll over on one of them!
As much as I hate quads, I feel for you as it was your property and very expensive property at that. God knows who stole it. They will get theirs.

sorry about your loss. If I remember right you posted in pow wow that you got a buck. Funny how that works, we get something and then sometimes we lose something, Keeps us humble and thats not a bad place to be. But besides that I hope you get your property back and they bust whoever did it.
Prayers from California. I am sure you are feeling violated and vulnerable knowing that you were asleep with the family when it took place.
I pray that they will be caught and your ATV returned in good condition. Also pray for your healing - emotionally.
