Please see last entry for update on 12/18
He's been getting radiation treatments for prostate cancer, as those who've followed along have known. He's been living in a motel room there for quite some many months, first treating a heart problem after his back surgery and then finding advanced prostate cancer.
A few weeks ago, to add to the fun, he found out he had kidney stones. One passed and as painful as it has been, it's a huge relief that one passed on through. Two more hanging around.
Other good news is that Ed completes his 42 prostate radiation treatments this coming Thursday. He will be headed to Los Cruces, NM to stay with friends while he tries to rebuild some strength.
Ed asks that I share that he's been so fatigued from the treatments that he literally comes home from the clinic and collapses for hours on end.
He's not been on line for a couple weeks and asks folks bear with him.
I have an address I can share where he will be receiving cards or letters of well wishes. Some asked for that here on another post regarding his condition:
5007 Chippewa Trail, Los Cruces, NM 88011
I know you all join me in continuing prayers for Ed's recovery and successful eradication of the cancer in his prostate with no further complications. He's prepared for the next round of pain with 2 more kidney stones to pass, but now that he knows what it is...he's ready for it!
One day soon, he'll get some energy back.
Benson, that computer is what linked him to ole high school chums and one of them is who is putting him up in Los Cruces. You never knew the extent of blessing you brought on his life when you drove the little box over to him, did ya? :)
Prayers for healing and strength and successful treatment of the cancer.
Prayers sent to the Doc, Hang in there and get well soon.
James
Hang in there Doc...
PULLING FOR YOU, DR.ED! STAY STRONG.
I'm glad it helped. I still can't imagine what it would have been like last year when I had surgery to remove cancer if I had to do it alone like Ed.
More prayers on the way.
prayers from Ga.
Guess Doc is hopefully safely at his friends in NM now. He had treatments on Thursday AM which he says sucks the bejabbers outa him for the rest of the day...
Ed's plan was to have the car packed with hotel stuff and head out from treatment the 35 mile drive to his new abode with friends.
Don't forget his new addy so perhaps we could send cards. I have an address I can share where he will be receiving cards or letters of well wishes. Some asked for that here on another post regarding his condition:
5007 Chippewa Trail, Los Cruces, NM 88011
Glad to hear Ed's through with that and is in the recuperating stage. Hang in there Ed we've got you covered.
Yeah, he sounded good on Monday just knowing he was in the final furlough! :)
Thing is that with the treatments taking all the starch outa him, that 35 miles was going to be a TRIP!! He said just the 1 mile drive from the clinc to the hotel about took him out!
I hope he made it ok...He's got a lota tough in him. :)
Finally caught up with Ed in his new digs in NM. He seems to be doing a LOT better. No more trouble with the kidney stones so far...and he's slowly getting energy back. He's only able to walk 3 telephone poles out and then the 3 back...or do 5min on the stationary bike...but that is a far, far cry from where a week ago, he'd get at treatment at 10:00AM and just lie on the bed to tired to eat or do anything....
He is focusing hard on preparing his presentation for the ATA show in January. He is praying he'll be strong enough to do that gig. It's one thing I know he's been focusing on throughout his ordeal to keep him going.
Please join me in prayer that his treatments were a success, the prostate cancer has been eradicated, and that the Lord will see fit to strengthen Ed enough to make his convention and do his presentation in mid-January.
Thank you, Lord, for what you've already done in Ed's life by way of healing and for the lessons he's taught me. Amen.
Continue prayers from Ga.
Amen and prayers continue.
Prayers from Pa
Amen!
Spoke to Ed in NM tonite on my drive home. He was napping.
Seems he could use renewed prayers. He's hit the wall again with fatigue. He'd been doing more and more and WHAM! Just like that, he has no energy and deadly fatigue that incapacitates him entirely.
Doc's say "nothing can be done" but to wait for the effects of the radiation to break down on their own and release his body from their grip.
He's wanting to do his presentation at the ATA show mid January so badly.
Prayers requested to renew Doc to full strength or at least strong enough to enjoy the holidays and finish his presentation and have strength to make the trip/flight to wherever the convention is being held.
Thanks for the update prayers continue.
Continued prayers from here for Doc...
A speical set of prayers for the family that is giving so of their lifes to give Doc a place to recup...
Later....Buzz
Prayers sent for a full and rapid restoration of good health...and a prayer of blessing for the family who has provided a place for Ed to rest and recover.
Claudia
Last I talked to Ed, he was hoping to make the drive from NM to GA for the holidays...but the return of the tough fatigue made it questionable.
One of our own here on Gang drove from NM to the motel in TX where Ed was "living" through long weeks of therapy/treatments, to deliver a loaner laptop so Ed could get back on the internet. As a result, Ed got re-connected with old high school friends down in that TX area...
The family that was/is putting him up is a HS associate. The loaned laptop allowed Ed to get back on the internet and created the re-connection to this old friend and the invite to spend recuperation time there after treatments.
Totally amazing how God takes a small gesture of kindness offered in Christian love and mulitplies it.
We just never know when a kind word or deed will bless others in manifold ways!
Merry Christmas, Doc Ed, wherever you might be right now...
Prayers that your energy returns and you can make your trip to the ATA conference and do your presentation!
GOD BE WITH YOU ED
MR BILL
I wish you a Happy New Year Doc Ed.
Hope the new year will bring good health to you Doc.
God Bless you Doc Ashby, for a full and speedy recovery. Take care and get the rest you need. Barry
Prayers from Pa, sent
Found a cell # for Ed. He answered!!!
He had an awesome time at ATAR. SEems he ran into a bunch of Gangers out there, too.
His presentation was an apparent overwhelming hit. No better medicine for the "Doc" than that!!! he was still on a high driving slowly from a stop over w/ Harry Elberg, to MO and then onto his recuperation location in NM.
Thank you Lord, that Ed could go and be so well and warmly received! May his health continue to improve sooner than later.
Prayers sent for a quick and full recovery....Dr. Ashby is one of the nicest people that I have ever met....years ago he sat and talked to my wife and myself for a long time in a hotel lobby in NC....down to earth and a very warm and friendly man....God's speed to a quick recovery Sir......
he's meandering his way back to Los Cruces, NM to a friend from HS who's putting him up till he heals better from the radiation treatments. Says something about this man's life-long behavior to still have HS friends like that, eh?
I think he said he has a Doc's appt on Thurs, 20th, for a post-treatment follow up. Hopefully, whatever they do shows marked improvement and that the cancer is abated or gone entirely.
By way of his humor, he was so tickled his presentation was well received. Then folks dropped by AK Bowhunting where he hung most of the time and were asking Ashby for his autograph... He told me that he commented to them "IF you good folks want MY autograph, you gotta get a life!" :)
Always the humble man who sees nothing more in himself that a man with questions he wants to answer...
Hopefully, he can get back on track and on the web this late week and catch us up personally.
Ed, Keep the Son in your eyes!
Praying for a great report
Praying for a speedy recovery
Prayers continue
I lived in Las Cruces for 2 years :)
Juan,
Amazing how he reconnected with HS friends through the internet while in TX and they invited him to recouperate there with one of them in Las Crueces...
Ed's got his treatment follow-up today. Prayers that the news is great and he's traveled home well.
Amen on a great report. God's best to Ed today & every day.
Just got to chat with Doc Ashby tonite. He's doing well. Got a good report from his follow -up exam for the prostate cancer treatment. He's also feeling some of his energy starting to return and is able to navigate a bit better and not so tired. He's pleased with the progress.
I'm sure he'll drift on by here when he can and update us all personally.
Doc, Keep the Son in your eyes!
Sweet! Praise God and glad for you Ed
First, let me thank each of you for your prayers and well wishes. I can not begin tell you how much they mean.
As Dave mentioned above, all seems on track so far. I'm starting to get some energy back, but perhaps as much or as fast as I thought. The drive over and back for yesterday's follow-up took the better part of a day ... and I slept 11 straight hours last night! Must have been a tad more fatigued that I though I was.
Nonetheless, I'm so happy to be feeling as well as I do. Finally there is enough 'get up and go' to begin doing a few simple exercises again. With God's help I get back to bush in the not so distant future.
My next F/U is with the Radiologist on 16 Feb. Hope that goes as well as yesterday's check up.
May God bless you each and every one,
Ed
Praise God! Glad to see you up and going again. Praying for another good report.
praying for Dr ashby.
