Title: Oldest Son Leaving for Bootcamp Oct. 14
Post by: thp on October 07, 2009, 01:20:00 PM
I could really use some prayers for my oldest son, David.  He just graduated this Spring and is headed off to Ft Benning this next week.  When he first started to talk about enlisting I told him, "David, you know there are a couple of wars going on right now, don't you?"

His reply, "Yeah, Dad, if I don't go who will?"  He has been working out all summer long and is in very good shape.

I appreciate your prayers for him... and for his proud, but nervous father, mother, brothers, sister and girlfriend.

Thanks all... I've been riding an emotional roller-coaster!

Thank God there are still young people who feel that sense of committment to the country and it's noble history.

May God bless, protect and watch over your son and all the young men and women who choose to serve our country.

must be a hard thing to send a child off to such an uncertain time, however, Thank God we have built this "go-to-itsm" into our offspring, and they see the need to defend a country that has been founded on Godly principals such as America, give 'em a big hug, and send off real proud, take a bow Dad, you did your job!!!!!!

My prayers go out for you and your son...I don't know that I support the mission over there, I'm not even sure that I know what it is. But, having talked to a number that we're there, I believe that individuals are making a difference in some of the lives of the people over there. In this I see God's hand. I pray for your son to have the strength to make a difference in the hearts and minds of individuals that don't understand us, and who we don't understand. In Jesus name, god bless.

Thanks brothers.  Your encouraging words and prayers have been a real blessing to me this week.  I had a great last couple of days with him.  I was struck by all of the other clean cut, smart, strong and brave young men and women shipping out at the same time as David.  Don't let anyone fool you our country has a lot of impressive young men and women ready to serve our country in a time of uncertainty.  I was proud of not only my boy, but all of these brave young Americans.

David is at Fort Benning and has an 11x MOS.  He would like to become a Ranger, but doesn't have an airborne contract, so it may be kind of tough.  The military has benefited from the down turn in the economy and enlistment is way up.  All of the airborne contracts were filled.  In any case all of the time he spent in wrestling, football and stalking the woods hunting will serve him well.

I'm praying not only for David, but for all of our service men and women and country.

Echo those prayers for all.  May our govt never fail these young people the way they did the Nam vets.  Lest we forget.

Lord in your Mercy...
